Stargazing with a friend or partner is a relaxing nighttime activity. But if you want to relax under a dark sky and look up at the stars, how will you know where to look? or what you see? If you want to check out the celestial bodies and constellations visible in a clear night sky, you should consider downloading a stargazing app. The best stargazing apps can give you a better map of the sky and more details about what you see.
My husband and I are far enough out in the country to see the stars, but we haven’t quite escaped the city’s light pollution. Every now and then before we start the night, we’ll go out onto the back porch if the sky’s clear, and look up. We have seen shockingly bright Venus, International Space Station line by And a few more stars — thanks in part to help from some astronomy apps. Google Sky It allows you to explore the expanses of space through the “eyes” of the Hubble Space Telescope, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the Digital Sky Survey. You can explore the wealth of information available for free on mobile or desktop.
Click the stairs at the bottom of the screen to learn more about the solar system, constellations, galaxies, nebulae, and views of the universe in X-ray, ultraviolet, and infrared light. You can also use the slide rails to see Giovanni Maria Cassini’s drawings of the sky.
In addition, find out where the planets are in the sky at a particular time by typing the name of a planet in the search box.

SkySafari astronomy app, which starts at $2 iOS And it’s free android, allows you to hold your phone up in the sky to identify planets, constellations, stars, and satellites. You can also use the app to see what the sky looked like thousands of years ago, or what it will look like in the future.
Simulation of past meteor showers, approaching comets and celestial events, such as eclipses. SkySafari also has a constellation illustration overlay feature in case you can’t visualize Leo or put up with what others claim to see. The app also offers information on history, mythology, and science to accompany the photos.
If you’re not sure where to start, you can tap Tonight’s Best in the app to check which object in the sky you can get the best look.

Star Tracker app works on iOS (lite) f android To show you 88 constellations and more than 8,000 deep-sky objects, the sun, moon, and planets, all in real time. The app uses a 3D compass in AR mode that indicates the position of the objects you have searched for. Think of it as a mobile planetarium.
To enhance the constellations, Star Tracker has a graphics feature of the 12 zodiac signs and six famous deep-sky objects.
The app is free, but there is a full version with more features for $3 and a version without ads for $1. In addition, Star Tracker Pro offers Time Machine and night mode.

International Space Station (ISS) app, available for free at iOS And androidIt doesn’t technically show you the stars, but you can check out the planets and the International Space Station itself. The app tracks where the lab in space is currently over the world at any given time.
Once you connect your location — the only permission the app asks for — it can tell you how often you can expect to see the International Space Station in the sky. For example, residents of Louisville, Kentucky, will typically be able to see the International Space Station between 7:57pm and 9:37pm each night for 30 seconds to a minute and a half. It’s a fleeting window – the International Space Station is traveling at about 17,100 miles per hour.
The app also keeps track of how long it takes for the International Space Station to pass through your location again, and how long it’s been visible. On average, the International Space Station appears to be visible in a given area once or twice a day over the course of a week.

Skyview app is $3 iOS And $2 on android, but both systems have a free lite version. To use Skyview, just point your device at the sky and you can start identifying galaxies, stars, constellations, planets – even the International Space Station. The application has a night mode and AR feature, so you can use it comfortably at any time.
The Sky Path feature in the app allows you to track objects in space to see exact locations at any date and time. In addition, Skyview has the option to travel through time to observe what the sky might look like in the past and in the future.

No home space adventure is complete without the free official NASA app, which you can download for NASA iOS or android. While you technically can’t use the app to watch stars in the same vein as some of the others on this list, you can still get up close and personal with the space.
Check out our image library with thousands of images that are constantly updated and watch live TV from NASA. In addition, the app features on-demand video from across the agency and live broadcasts from the Earth View experience in high definition on the International Space Station.
The app also keeps you up to date with NASA missions, launch information, upcoming sightings, and news and tweets from the agency.

Star Walk 2 for $3 iOS and free to android With in-app purchases, it uses your phone’s sensors and GPS to show you a map of the night sky in real time, pinpointing the location of stars, planets, constellations, comets, the International Space Station, and satellites.
Like SkySafari, you can click on Visible Tonight if you’re not sure where to start. The feature will tell you about all upcoming astronomical events and celestial bodies visible for your location. The What’s New section will also keep you updated on upcoming events. You can also view the ephemeris or tap on the watch face icon to select any date and time and see the sky at different periods.
