Whether you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the An epic road trip across the United States, or just a quiet weekend getaway, you want the best camera to document your adventure. The best camera can upload your vacation photos and videos in higher quality. It can also help you take amazing slow motion shots, in particular, the strong water resistance so that your phone stays securely in your pocket. You can’t go wrong with a GoPro. It has excellent image quality, is very durable, and its app is very powerful at letting you edit your photos and shots to look their best. The main reason I would recommend the Hero 10 over one of the less expensive options is because Max Lens Mode. This lens can be swapped inward and records a wider angle of view. In addition, it improves the already excellent stability.

Insta360
I have used 360 cameras for years. They’ve come a long way. This is the first time I’ve ever considered using it without a backup action camera. 360 Camera captures everything in a ball around the camera. Later, with the app, you can pick and choose what you want to show and how. So you’re basically recording everything, and then cropping to show only the interesting parts.
One of the coolest tricks a 360 camera can do is to automatically remove the selfie stick, so it looks like you have a drone following you. For more, check out:

This is a unique little action camera that I’ve been using a lot. It’s not really a main camera, but it’s certainly an excellent secondary camera. It’s the size of your thumb – and magnetic. You can hang it on your shirt while wearing a magnetic necklace attached to it, attach it to anything metallic, or use one of the countless clever mounts. The case that recharges and controls the camera has a built-in tripod. The footage is nicely stabilized and it looks a lot better than you’d expect for something so small.
Because of its size, it can record perspectives that other cameras can’t, like the POV model train in the video below.

For most people, the GoPro Hero 10 Black is all the action camera they need. If you don’t mind spending a little more, the newer Hero 11 improves on the 10 in a few minor ways. First, there’s a new image sensor. The primary difference is that it is more squared off. So, if you often post vertical content for TikTok or Instagram, for example, but would still like to be able to post standard horizontal content to YouTube, this allows you to do both more easily without much loss in quality.

DJI
If you don’t want to invest in a new camera, or don’t want the bulk of a single (fair) camera, consider a gimbal. You can really improve the quality of your videos with a gimbal. They smooth your hand movements as you walk around, and can do professional-looking glamorous pans and tilts. It’s absolutely essential if you primarily use your phone. I have an OM 3, but 5 is the current model and it’s easy to connect to your phone.

If you record a lot of videos, your camera and phone storage space will fill up quickly. Cloud storage is an option, but if you’re bringing a laptop, consider a small portable hard drive. I have one of these and it seems impossibly small for how much it can store. It is also reasonably durable.

selfie stick
I don’t have a strong recommendation for this, other than to say that selfie sticks are great (when you’re not in crowds, that is) and you should find one you like. Even I, who has what a friend describes as “frighteningly long arms,” find a selfie stick to be of great use. They let me take photos and videos that would be impossible any other way, especially with a 360 camera that automatically deletes the stick from the final photo or video.
It floats precariously over rough terrain, thanks to its 360-degree camera and selfie stick.

I recommend getting one with screws on both ends, which gives you more options on what you can mount and how you can mount the wand itself. Likewise, make sure you get a device that can hold all of your cameras and phones.
Camera remote control
I find it very useful, although depending on your recording method, that may not be the case. It’s a simple Bluetooth remote control that lets you control when the camera starts and stops recording as well as change modes, settings, etc. True, you can use the camera app on your phone instead, but I feel like I’ve spent half my life trying to connect cameras to their apps, so sometimes a remote control is easier. Sometimes the remote doesn’t connect either. It’s a hassle either way. oh well.
