Meaningful accomplishments in life are often built on encouraging supporters who inspire and motivate them.
The camaraderie and support women give each other are in the spotlight on Google on Wednesday as we celebrate International Women’s Day. The annual holiday focuses on the achievements of women and raising awareness about gender inequality.
This Google Doodle highlights the support women give each other to move forward and improve their quality of life. The letters in the doodle present vignettes depicting different ways women help other women, as explained by Google in an accompanying document. introduction To doodle:
“Women who occupy positions of power and advocate for progress across issues pivotal to the lives of women everywhere. Women who come together to explore, learn, and rally for their rights. Women who provide essential care to people from all walks of life. They are support systems critical to each other in motherhood.” .
After suffering centuries of oppression and inequality, women became more active at the turn of the 20th century in campaigning for change. In 1908, a group of women marched through the streets of New York City to demand higher wages, shorter hours, and voting rights.
The first Women’s Day was celebrated throughout the United States the following year in accordance with the Declaration of the Socialist Party of America. Now the holiday is celebrated every March 8th in dozens of countries around the world.
The doodle was drawn on Wednesday by doodle artist Alyssa Winans, who said she’s spent a lot of time thinking about the ways other women have supported her throughout her life.
“I have always benefited from the wisdom and support of those who have come before me!” She told Google. “I am grateful for that and for all the ways I see the women in my life standing up for each other and their values.”
