Resin 3D printing is a little different than what you think is normal 3D printing. more than The best 3D printers Use a material called filament to produce the prints, but some use reactive resin to create amazingly detailed models.
These printers use a special type of UV resin that comes in a variety of colors and chemical compositions, each of which can create a different type of end result. A lot of them are specialty resins that you probably won’t need every day, but it can get complicated when you’re looking for the right material. We’ve put together this handy list of the best resins for you to choose from. The list will be updated as more resins are tested by our team.
Saraya Tech
Siraya Tech Fast is the perfect balance of price per gallon and functionality. There are cheaper resins, but many tend to split or become sticky if handled incorrectly. Fast has been my go-to for the past few years and it has never let me down when it comes to reliability.
I also use it for all my resin 3D printer reviews so I know what each printer can handle. The smoky gray is my favorite, but there are some great colors to choose from.

Anicubic
The holy grail of clear resin is staying clear after curing. When UV light is added to erase the resin, it tends to turn slightly yellow, making it look more like nicotine-stained glass than freshly made. Anycubic high clarity resin resists yellowing of other clear resins, and as long as you don’t over-treat it, it will maintain the crystal clear appearance.
Pro tip: After curing the model, spray it with several coats of High gloss clear coat To make it really shine.
Sunlu
When you’re just starting out, it’s helpful to purchase a bulk of inexpensive resins to start your collection. These four packs of 500g resin can be mixed and matched so that you can get four different colors, perfect for creating different effects on your models.

Eligo
While Elegoo considers its botanical resin to be non-irritating and safe, it is much better than any other resins in this regard. It is still necessary to handle it with gloves, a respirator, and goggles until it is completely cured.
However, they are cheap, easy to use, and give reliable results for the price. I also like that the resin smell is almost non-existent with botanical resins.

Resin can be very fragile, and if you’re building parts that need to be pressed, a resin like Anycubic’s Strong Resin can help extend its life.
The hard resin works like other resins but allows for some flexibility in the final model. This reduces the chances of it smashing into pieces like dry spaghetti.

Saraya Tech
One of the coolest things I’ve done with a resin printer is making a mold for jewelry. I used some of this resin to print a Green Lantern ring, then took it to a friend of mine who has an oven. She wrapped it in plaster and released it. The resin has a high percentage of wax which helps it melt, leaving behind a mold that is ideal for silver casting.
This resin isn’t cheap, but if you’re interested in making your own jewelry and have access to a kiln, this might be for you.

3D printing resin FAQ
3D printing from resin is very different from other types of additive manufacturing. It can be dangerous, but it is very rewarding if you can get it right. Here are some of the frequently asked questions I get asked about the process.
Is 3D printing resin dangerous?
Short answer: yes. Long answer: Yes, if you’re careful that’s fine. Touching resin with your bare hands can cause chemical burns, and the more you handle it, the more likely you are to develop an allergic reaction to it. Now I have to be more careful, because I get swollen eyes if any resin liquid touches my skin. It’s not a joke. Making sure you wear the correct protective equipment is critical when using resin. The minimum you should be using Nitrile gloves Anytime you’re dealing with uncured resin, though I recommend a pair of safety glasses and a respirator to keep the toxins out.
Can I use regular Michaels resin?
The type of resin you might see at Michaels or other craft stores is not the same as 3D printing resin. Most of these resins are two-part systems that bond chemically when mixed. UV resin cures under UV light. It only does this under certain wavelengths, however, not all resins will work. You will need to use resins specifically labeled as 3D printing resins.
What happens if I don’t process the form?
There are two main stages of processing for a resin-printed model. The first is the curing that takes place inside the printer when a UV light hardens a layer of resin to form the pattern. The second happens after the form is completed. When you first take the model off the build plate, you still need to use gloves to handle it, as the outside will be covered in uncured resin. You will need to wash the model in isopropyl alcohol–90% or more is best–and then cure it one last time in a UV room or outside in the sun. This will harden the outer surface and make it safe to handle.
If you don’t do this second treatment, the model will still be sticky and unsafe to handle. Even covering them with paint will not prevent them from being dangerous to you and everything around you, including animals and plants. I would recommend b Washing and treatment system to simplify this process.
Can I 3D print something in food/body safe resin?
no. 3D printing resin is never safe with foods. While processing makes them safe to handle, it is never 100% safe and handling any amount of resin is important. The best way to make food safe products out of your resin prints is to make a silicone mold out of them and use them to make food safe resin products instead.
Are there different types of resin?
While all UV resins are basically the same, some have different properties that help you achieve different results. Standard resin is great for many projects but can be very brittle. Some of them have a lot of elasticity but don’t go into fine detail, which makes them great for more practical prints. There are even resins that can be used to make molds for dentures, so the uses are endless.
Siraya Tech Fast – the best overall resin on our list – can be mixed with other brand types to create different properties so you can buy the cheapest resin and mix it with a small amount of more expensive resin with different properties.
