Google Pixel Fold Leak includes screen and camera specifications

What is said to be a new Pixel Fold leak seems to fill in any remaining gaps in knowledge about Google’s first foldable phone. If the details are correct, not only do we have a long list of potential specifications, but also a big reveal date for the device, well ahead of Google I/O 2023.

Laker, John Prosser It was previously issued Alleged renders of the Pixel Fold, along with a timeline, say the phone will be officially announced on May 10, the first day this year. Google I/O conference. On Friday, Prosser released a video in partnership with Front Page Tech with more details, including that Google will first tease the device on April 26th.

Prosser continued with a long spec drop accompanied by some close-ups of flex. He also noted two configurations of foldable storage: a 256GB, in either chalk (white) or obsidian (black), for about $1,800, or a 512GB model that only comes in obsidian, for about $1,920.

According to Prosser’s sources, the foldable package houses a 5.8-inch external OLED display with a 17.4:9 aspect ratio, Full HD Plus resolution (2,092 x 1,080 pixels), and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The internal 7.6-inch OLED display has a tablet-sized 6:5 aspect ratio (2,208 x 1,840 pixels) and also has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

The render shows a camera block similar to the one on Google’s last flagship phone, the Pixel 7 Pro, though it stands on its own on the Pixel Fold instead of recessed into the back cover as it does on other Google phones. The cameras themselves are almost identical to those on the Pixel 7 Pro, though: the main camera is 48MP with an f/1.7 aperture and an 82-degree field of view. The foldable lens also has a 10.8MP ultra-wide with an f/2.2 aperture and a 121.1-degree field of view, while the 10.8MP telephoto lens can shoot with a 5x optical zoom and a 20x “super-resolution” (presumably digitally enhanced) zoom.

The only place the Fold might be worse than its flatter predecessor is in video, with the Fold only recording 4K footage at 30fps, while the Pixel 7 Pro can run that up to 60fps. If you want that many frames per second while shooting video on the Fold, you’ll need to call it up to 1080p.

The front camera on the external display is 9.5MP f/2.2 with an 84-degree field of view, which is roughly comparable to the Pixel 7 Pro’s. There is a camera above the inner display as well, an 8MP f/2.0 camera that will mostly be used for Zoom and other video chat calls.

The Pixel Fold will use Google’s Tensor 2 chipset (presumably the Tensor Gen 2 that debuted in the Google Pixel 7 in October) along with a Titan M2 security chip, according to the leak. It will also pack 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM in all configurations.

As for dimensions, the Pixel Fold is claimed to be 5.5 inches long, 3.1 inches wide, and 0.5 inches thick, which is shorter but wider when folded than Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4It measures 6.1 inches long, 2.6 inches wide, and 0.6 inches wide. (The leak did not include the dimensions of the Pixel Fold when opened flat.) At 283g, the Pixel Fold is also heavier than the Samsung Z Fold 4, which weighs 263g.

The Pixel Fold’s battery specs are less realistic, with Prosser only saying that a charge will last “more than 24 hours” and potentially up to 72 hours with battery saver mode (a setting that usually limits features and screen brightness).

Prosser has a reputation for leaking legitimate information about consumer technology products, especially phones. He leaked neatly Design of the 2021 iPad Mini 6 and the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro release date. But as with all leaks, this information may not accurately reflect the final device we expect to reveal at Google I/O in a matter of weeks.
