iOS 16.4 on your iPhone: Every new feature you can try right now


iOS 16.4 is here. After weeks of waiting, Apple’s latest iPhone update is now out Available for download. The update comes with a bunch of files Bug and security fixesas well as new features, such as a set of new emoji and sound isolation for cellular calls.

31 new emojis

It brings iOS 16.4 update 31 new emoji for your iOS device. New emojis include a new smiley face; new animals, such as the moose and goose; and new heart colours, including pink and light blue.

Sound isolation comes in for cellular calls

In iOS 16.4, you can easily find duplicate photos in shared albums in the Photos app. If you share photos with family or friends via iCloud, iOS 16.4 will show you all duplicates across albums. You can also merge these duplicate photos.

PlayStation 5 controller support

according to MacRumors, iOS 16.4 adds support for PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge Wireless Controller. You can use the console to play console-enabled games from services such as Apple Arcade — a CNET Editors’ Choice Award Winner – on your iPhone.

Update Apple Books

The page squiggly animation in Apple Books returned with iOS 16.4, after being removed in a previous iOS update. Before, when you flipped a page in an e-book on your iPhone, the page would slide to one side of your screen or disappear and be replaced by the next. You can still choose these other page-turning animations in addition to the scrolling animation.

The Music app changes

A small banner appears at the bottom of the screen when you choose to play a song next in Apple Music in iOS 16.4

The Music interface has been slightly modified in iOS 16.4. When a song is added to the queue, a small banner appears near the bottom of the screen instead of a full-screen popup as in previous iOS versions.

Also, if you go to your library in music, you can organize your library by artist and clicking on an artist, you will see an icon for that artist at the top of your page. The search bar is at the top of this page. Click on the artist icon and you will be taken to that artist’s music page.

Apple Podcasts updates

Apple Podcasts is also getting an update with iOS 16.4. You can now access the Channels tab in your library, which shows you the different networks you follow. Click on each channel and you’ll see what shows you subscribe to and what other shows the channel produces.

Learn who and what AppleCare covers

With iOS 16.4, you can go to Settings > General > About > Coverage to check which devices your device covers AppleCare Plan. This way, if your AirPods are broken, you can easily check if they are covered. You can manage your coverage from here as well.

Focus mode filters have been added

If you have a file iPhone 14 Pro or Pro MaxiOS 16.4 allows you to enable or disable the Always On Display option in a specific way focus modes. When creating a new filter, scroll down to the bottom of the edit page, tap Focus Filter, and then tap Always-On Display to enable or disable display for this focus mode.

New Apple Wallet features

You can add three new order tracking widgets for Apple Wallet to your home screen with iOS 16.4. Each widget displays your tracking information on active orders, but the widgets are of different sizes: small, medium, and large.

A medium-sized Apple Wallet order tracker takes up two rows on the iPhone screen.

More access options

The update also adds new accessibility options. One of the new options is called Dim Flashing Lights, and it can be found in the Motion menu in Settings. The description of the option says that video content that depicts flashing or repetitive flashing lights will be darkened automatically. Video timelines will also appear when flashing lights occur. VoiceOver support has also been expanded to include Maps and Weather apps.

Apple ID and beta software updates

The latest iOS update allows you to sign in to another Apple ID to access another beta program.

With iOS 16.4, developers and beta testers can check if their Apple ID is associated with the developer beta, the public beta, or both. If you have a different Apple ID, such as your job ID, that has access to beta updates, iOS 16.4 also allows you to switch to that account from your device.

New keyboards, Siri voices, and language updates

The iOS 16.4 update also adds keyboards for the Choctaw and Chickasaw languages, and there are new Siri voices for Arabic and Hebrew. Language updates have also reached Korean, Ukrainian, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Urdu.

• Addresses issues where biocompatible thermostats can become unresponsive when paired with an Apple Home
• Crash detection improvements on iPhone 14 and iPhone
