OpenAI does not run on GPT-5, says CEO Sam Altman

ChatGPT creator OpenAI has not yet begun work on GPT-5 and has no immediate plans to do so, CEO Sam Altman said this week.

speaks in MIT via video call On Thursday, Altman referred to A.J Signed letter from Elon MuskApple co-founder Steve Wozniak and others at the end of March, said: “An earlier version of the letter claimed that OpenAI GPT-5 training. We are not and will not be for some time.”

The open letter urged labs to pause at least six months in developing AI because of the “deep risks” to society. Altman said he agreed with parts of the letter and added that OpenAI “spent more than six months after we finished training GPT-4 before we released it.”

“I think treading carefully and being more stringent on safety issues is really important,” Altmann said. “I also agree that as…the possibilities become more and more serious that the safety bar has to be raised.

Altman added, “But we’re doing other things in addition to GPT-4 that I think have all sorts of important safety issues to address that are completely left out of the letter,” though he didn’t elaborate on that. were Altman’s remarks mentioned earlier by CNBC.

The open letter, published by the non-profit Future of Life Institute, cited concerns about the unexpected effects of artificial intelligence.

“AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as evidenced by extensive research and endorsed by top AI labs,” the letter states. “Should we allow machines to flood our media channels with propaganda and lies? Should we automate all jobs, including the jobs we fulfill? Should we risk losing control of our civilization?”

The letter came after mid-March Public appearance of OpenAI’s GPT-4, which is an update of the large language model that supports ChatGPT chat bots. According to OpenAI, GPT-4 has fewer bugs, produces more accurate results, and handles more complex tasks than previous versions. ChatGPT relies on the massive datasets used to train GPT-4 to answer questions and perform tasks, such as Pass the bar exam.

“At some point, it may be important to obtain an independent review before starting to train future systems,” OpenAI says on its web site.
