Monitoring 2 Preparing for its fourth season, which will bring New support hero In the expanded shooter list. The newest addition to Blizzard’s online multiplayer game will be Lifeweaver, Overwatch’s first Thai champion and first openly gendered champion. The game also introduces a new sci-fi-themed battle pass and event, with the last event mode replayed, as well as balancing changes and updates to the game’s competitive mode.

Season 4 battle pass and the Starwatch event
In addition to a new support hero, the next battle pass introduces a new space opera-themed series of cosmetics, complete with evil empire and enemy powers. This sci-fi add-on for Overwatch is called Starwatch, and players will be able to compete in a 4v4 Starwatch event in May, pitting the Infinite Empire against the Watchers, with different heroes belonging to different factions. The event runs from May 9-22.

The developers said the goal was to help the hero “be more attractive and powerful when he uses his ultimate.”
Mercy’s recent changes are reversed, meaning she’ll regain some movement while also losing her healing boost to targets below half health. The Sigma and Reinhardt tanks are slated to make “small changes”, along with damage champion Cassidy – all intended to slightly reduce their lethality.
Competitiveness and reconciliation
Competitive players rejoice: Rankings will not reset at the end of the season. We’ll also see the average lobby skill rating when competitive matches start. After the match, players will see their win/loss record and get an indication of how close they are to the next skill class division. The latter is a particularly welcome change, as it will finally give us some indication of whether we’re on the cusp of the top rankings or still have a ways to go.

Lifeweaver release date and capabilities
Lifeweaver will be part of the Battle Pass for Season 4, when the season launches on April 11th. It’s a utility-focused support that focuses on keeping teammates alive and providing additional mobility options for allies. Here’s what his group looks like:
Primary weapon: Healing Blossom. Hold primary fire to charge a healing blast and release to send the blast to your target ally.
Secondary Weapon: Thorn Volley. Unloading a series of projectiles at a rapid rate of fire. Note that the Lifeweaver has to swap weapons like Mercy with her staff and blaster.

Overwatch 2 is building its support roster, which has relatively few options compared to tanks and damage roles. The game has been added Kirikou Launching in October, Lifeweaver will join the list later this month, and another Developer blog post He confirmed that the new hero of Season 6 will also have a supporting role. CNET had a chance to hear directly from Overwatch’s developers in media interviews ahead of the hero’s announcement. They answered a lot of questions about the possibility of abuse of the Lifeweaver’s abilities to prank mates, as many of us started a match by quarantining them in our hatchery room by the troll Mei. They said the game has some detections to prevent, for example, the Lifeweaver on your team from deliberately knocking you off the map. Mobility abilities such as the Tracer’s blink will also cancel out the Life Grip’s effect, giving players some extra control. Both Petal Platform and Tree of Life can be canceled if they are used inadvertently.
It looks like the Lifeweaver combo will reward creative uses, like using a Life Grip on an ally during their end to change the angle of attack or dropping the Petal Platform to hide allies in strategic and unexpected locations. But the charging nature of his healing also means you have to anticipate when your team will need it. The developers have also confirmed that the Lifeweaver’s basic healing doesn’t scale as it charges – it’s either fully charged or not, which is confusingly different from how the ability appears on screen (it gains digital charge as you charge it).

Lifeweaver was roommates with Symmetra at Vishkar Academy, where she learned how to master solid lighting fixtures. But that technology turned out to be a bit rigid for him, and he eventually went on to create his own technology, biolight. Whereas Vishkar wanted to control technology, Lifeweaver wanted to use it to improve the world, so conflict arose, and he went on the run, ending up in the Atlantic Arcology – a state-independent location hinted at on the map of Esperança. The developers won’t say much about the flag of the Atlantic Ocean, other than the fact that hero Torbjörn spends some time there.
In terms of personality, the Lifeweaver is confident, warm, and caring. The developers said they’re looking for several flirtatious lines as Lifeweaver lets most of the Overwatch crew know how great it is. (This seems like the perfect setup for a full program Overwatch dating sim.) It will be interesting to see who on the list returns that interest.
In terms of gameplay, the developers said their goal was to design a hero that would be easily accessible, especially for new players. They cited Mercy as an inspiration, as they wanted a hero less mechanically demanding than Zenyatta’s goal or Lucio’s move. That philosophy seems to fit with Lifeweaver’s utility-centric design, but we’ll find out exactly how that goes next week.
