The new Lexus RZ 450e isn’t alone in its predicament. Still, given the average American commute is about 41 miles per day to and from work, all of the aforementioned EVs could theoretically survive the daily grind without recharging—including the Lexus RZ 450e.
However, it is not so simple. Pricing for the entry-level Lexus RZ 450e Premium starts around $60,000. For some people, that kind of money just isn’t worth it for the 220-mile range, considering that an EV like the Tesla Model Y goes further, faster, and has no shortage of high-tech gadgets.
Moreover, the Lexus RZ only supports up to 150kW of DC fast charging (from 0-80% in 30 minutes), while other EVs can accept more juice for a faster charge. For buyers who want a luxury driving experience and Lexus badge appeal, the RZ 450e won’t disappoint, as long as your average daily commute can cover about 150 miles over the course of a week.
