For a decade, I have defended my choice to own android To countless haters. But at long last, I traded in my lover Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus to iPhone 14 Pro. And yet, I have no regrets. (Especially now that I no longer feel bad about it green texts — more on that later.)
It may seem like I’m being too dramatic, but that trip to the Verizon store signaled a huge turnaround for me. I’ve always prided myself on not buying into Apple’s hype. Despite years of harassment from friends Switch to iPhone, I pushed back, saying that I like to be different from the masses. Everyone around me has an iPhone. It was good to defy the norm. And so, for years I’ve been with my Samsung Galaxy devices, which I still think it is Incredible phones.
But after talking to friends and family about What I could get from an iPhone that I couldn’t get from an Android deviceI began to reconsider my position. Yes, I loved the Galaxy S10 Plus and everything it offered: a top-notch camera, a customizable interface, and Object eraserwhich removes any unwanted people or objects from your photos (Pixel phones have a similar feature). But at the end of the day, there was one big thing my Android device couldn’t offer: a seamless way to communicate with all my iPhone friends.

I’ve been told countless times that I’m ruining group conversations by turning all my texts “green”. This is because Apple refuses to make iMessage compatible with Android phones, so when you message someone who isn’t on iOS, you’ll see green text bubbles instead of the standard blue ones. Since this seemed like a superficial complaint — and it’s 100% Apple’s fault — I brushed it aside.
Until I realized I was missing out on the other, more important benefits of owning an iPhone.
Unless you use a third party app like WhatsApp, there is no easy way to send HD photos and videos directly between Android phone and iPhone. I was OK with just using WhatsApp… until I started to envy my friends who were spot on air drop Pictures and videos after our break. WhatsApp also reduces the quality of videos, and Google Drive takes longer to upload videos to it.
It was also frustrating that apps like TikTok degraded the camera quality on Android. Comparing TikTok videos captured on an iPhone — even an older version like the iPhone X — with those captured on the Galaxy S10 Plus is like night and day. On my Galaxy device, TikTok distorted colors and blurred everything in the most unrealistic, unreal way possible. On the iPhone, videos are crisp and clear and appear as they should. For someone who uses TikTok as much as I do, this was important.
These reasons, along with the fact that I already use a MacBook and would therefore benefit from Apple ecosystemled me to start changing my mind Owning an iPhone. Enjoy features like new permanent display on the iPhone 14 Pro models — something I absolutely loved on my Galaxy devices — and fun new items like Dynamic IslandSuddenly I was sold on the idea of switching.
An increasing number of people feel attractive Switch to iPhoneaccording to a report From Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. Fifteen percent of people who bought an iPhone from March 2022 to 2023 switched from an Android phone. This is up from 11% in the previous year. So I have company.

Yes, I had to fight feelings of selling. But I realized that in the end, it’s just a phone. And no matter what you do, people will have undesirable opinions about the device you’re using. My Galaxy has worked well for me for many years. Now I’m ready for something new. And yet, I have no regrets.
