iOS 16.6 Beta 1: What features your iPhone could get soon

Apple released iOS 16.6 beta 1 to public beta testers less than a week after the release of iOS 16.6 iOS 16.5. We don’t expect many new features with iOS 16.6, as Apple is expected to announce it iOS 17 at the Worldwide Developers Conference It’s June, but the first beta of iOS 16.6 lays the groundwork for a new security tool for iPhone.

New iOS features can be fun, but we only recommend downloading a beta on something other than your primary phone in case the new software causes problems. Apple also provides beta testers with an app called Feedback. Testers can notify Apple of any new software issues with the app, that way the issue can be addressed before the public release.

Here’s what could be coming to your iPhone running iOS 16.6.

Check iMessage contact key

Apple announced Verify Call key in iMessage at December 2022and it seems that the first beta version of iOS 16.6 includes some of the tool framework.

“With iMessage Contact Key Verification, users facing unusual digital threats … can choose to further verify that they only send messages with people who intend to,” Apple wrote in a press release at the time.

The feature doesn’t seem to work, but if you go to Settings and search for Call key verification in iOS 16.6, you should see an option for this feature. Clicking on the feature opens your Apple ID settings at this time.

Apple has not announced a release date for iOS 16.6. Apple may include more features in iOS 16.6, and there is no guarantee that Contact Key Verification will be released in the update.
