This amazing “electronic skin” technology communicates with the brain like real skin

The e-skin uses a three-layer insulation design, with one of the layers made from the rubber used in surgical gloves. Electrical signals travel through each layer with the help of an organic nanostructure network.

Each sensory layer can be customized based on need, and then neatly put together to form a composite structure that works in the same way as nerve receptors in human skin. “Each electronic layer is a few tens to a hundred nanometers thick, and the final material made up of half a dozen or so layers is less than a micron thin,” Official statement details Documentation of innovation.

For comparison, the average human hair is about 70 microns thick. However, electronic skin less than a micron thick is extremely difficult to work with due to its fragility.

“But this is actually too thin to handle easily, so we use a substrate to support it, which brings our electronic shell to about 25-50 microns – about as thick as a sheet of paper,” Bao said.
