The game is an RPG based on space exploration, so you will obviously own a spaceship of some kind and spend a lot of time in it. Bethesda seems to have gone out of its way to give you plenty of options when it comes to your personal career. To get you started, there are many styles of ships on offer. The species we saw during the show included a fighter, which demonstrators said would be a great choice for bounty hunter characters, as well as a larger freighter. But the options don’t end there.
Once you have a basic ship, it can be highly customized. The customization system is modular, so you can add or remove sections as needed. These units appear both inside and outside the ship. Some store goods, some contain manufacturing benches, and others can serve as warehouses. You can also arrange them in any configuration you want, and create a cat-like ship, a mech, or a gentleman bomber. The sky and beyond is the limit.
Ship battle is also a huge part of the game, and can happen any time you’re flying through the black void separating the more than 1,000 explorable planets on offer. The combat system itself seems complex, and players will apparently have to rely on many skills if they want to survive. This includes allocating force to help them survive a fight or a quick escape, using their piloting skills to gain the upper hand, and targeting enemy ships with precision.
