with arrival Galaxy S23 Back in February, a lot of people upgraded to Samsung’s flagship smartphone. It is important to protect such an expensive purchase from scratches and other damage. And if you’re here, you’re probably looking for a new case to Whatever the S23 model You bought, whether it’s an S23 Ultra case, a Plus case or a case for the base S23 model. There are definitely plenty of Galaxy S23 cases to choose from, and we’re now seeing some manufacturers add magnetic properties to their cases so you can use them not just with Apple MagSafe accessories but with non-Apple magnetic accessories like wallets, batteries, and stands.

Finding a case that fits your budget is important, but there are certain case features that you may want to consider. For example, Galaxy S23 Plus and S23 Ultra owners may want a case with a built-in kickstand, because they’re larger phones (Ultra in particular) that you’ll want to prop up while watching videos. However, case selection comes down to personal taste, which is why I tried to include a variety of styles in this roundup, all of which CNET editors tested on one of the S23 series models.

The cases below are listed at the starting price of the line, so be sure to purchase the case that matches your S23. Same goes for tempered glass for extra protection – match the size to your S23, whether it’s the Ultra, Plus, or base model.

Case maker Speck is bringing a selection of protective case options to the Galaxy S23, including Presidio2 Grip (shown in blue), Presidio Perfect-Mist, and Presidio Perfect-Clear.

All new models have very good drop protection (from 13 to 16 feet, depending on the model) as well as Speck’s Microban antimicrobial coating. Cases start at around $40 in various color options, and Speck frequently offers discounts for first-time buyers on its site.

Clckr cases feature a built-in kickstand and grip strap that folds out and clicks into place on the back of your phone. Clckr only sells the kickstand/strap accessory to clip onto the back of your phone (or in a case), but the Galaxy S23 Clear case with the built-in kickstand attachment is even better and also comes in a textured version if transparency isn’t your thing. I wouldn’t say the cases are super protective but they are tough enough, with raised edges to protect the screen.

With the stand clicked into place, you can use your device hands-free in portrait or landscape mode. Note that you can charge your phone wirelessly with this case, though you have to be extra careful about placing it in the correct spot on a wireless charging pad for it to work.

Urban Armor Gear offers several case options for the Galaxy S23 models in a variety of colors. I like the Pathfinder series, but I highlight the new Plyo Pro, which has a built-in “magnetic module” that looks a bit like the MagSafe module and allows you to use magnetic accessories with the case.

All UAG cases feature good corner protection and meet military drop-test standards, with a Plyo Pro rating for 16-foot drop protection.

British case maker Gear4, now owned by Zagg, makes the cases up there with those from OtterBox and Speck. They are all lined with D3O shock absorbent material and feature beveled edges to protect your phone. For the Galaxy S23, I love the Denali Kickstand (pictured – 16-foot drop protection) and Everest Kickstand specifically because they have built-in supports, are protective, and feel comfortable in the hand. Milan (13 feet for fall protection) and London (13 feet for fall protection) also have eye-catching designs.

If you’re looking for a cheap, plain case for the new Galaxy S23, Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid is a good value at around $16 to $19, depending on which version you get. I love the Ultra Hybrid Zero One It has a fingerprint on the insides of your phone, making it look like the back of your phone is open and exposed when it really isn’t.

I also love Ultra Hybrid S ($20), a clear case with a built-in kickstand. the New Hybrid ($20) is a fairly basic case, instead Cryo Shield It’s a $21 three-layer “gaming” case designed to “absorb and dissipate heat from your phone through hours of gaming.”

No rating is listed for these Samsung phone cases, but most Spigen cases, with the exception of the slimmest models, offer reasonable protection. If you want a solid case with decent protection, get one of Armor’s models.

Note that many of these cheaper clear cases usually turn yellow and degrade over time, making them less transparent. But it’s cheap enough that you probably won’t mind paying for a replacement if and when it happens.

The company’s ultra-protective Defender Series case is available for all Galaxy S23 models, but most people will want something a little less bulky. I like the Symmetry series cases — they’re thin with chamfered edges, which makes them a good mix of style and protection. However, I liked the more protective Commuter series better, thanks to the handles on the back and sides, as well as the raised bezels on the front that should help protect your screen. The raised bezel acts as a screen protector to keep your screen scratch-free, and the camera module gets the same treatment.

The Peak Design Everyday Case is available for all S23 models and is already compatible with MagSafe accessories from Apple and others MagSafe compatible magnetic accessoriesincluded Wireless charging batteries, wallets, and more. But the case does have Peak Design’s own built-in magnetic locking system—the company calls it SlimLink—that connects to a variety of Peak Design’s Mobile mounts and accessories. This includes bike mounts, charging mounts, tripod mounts, car mounts and more. The only Peak Design accessory I wouldn’t recommend is the wallet, which neither locks onto the case nor attaches securely to it.

When you combine the Peak Design accessories with all the MagSafe accessories out there, you definitely get a lot of accessory options to choose from. The case is relatively slim with a 6-foot drop protection rating, though note that there are more protective cases on this list with slightly better corner protection. Unlike previous Peak cases for Samsung phones, you can use the S-Pen attachment while your phone is in the case; There was previously an issue with the magnetic matrix design with previous Galaxy phones.

The Samsung Clear Gadget Cover has a built-in ring kickstand that allows you to prop the phone horizontally. You will also be able to attach other optional accessories to the case. The Gadget Tray is available for all three S23 models but makes more sense for the larger Plus and Ultra models.

Particularly with the two larger Galaxy S23 models, I find having a built-in kickstand to be a nice feature, and the ESR kickstand case is almost as affordable as you get for around $20. It could drop to around $15 in time.

Samsung’s new frame case for the Galaxy S23 is an interesting concept. In the box, you get a “frame” (we used to call this a bumper case) and two interchangeable back panels—one transparent, the other a card slot—so you can use a purse-style case or a regular briefcase. Needless to say, you will also be able to purchase other backboards with different designs to give your case a new look if you ever get bored of it.

Cyrill is a sub-brand of Spigen and like Spigen, cans of them generally sell for less than $20. Cyrill doesn’t have quite the same selection for the Galaxy S23 as it does for the iPhone 14, but it does offer its UltraColor case, which has a soft-touch finish. It has a raised bezel on the back that provides some extra protection for the camera lens. The corners of the case also have a raised lip.

Available in black, green, and camel, the Samsung Leather Case offers a nice, smooth, comfortable feel with decent edge protection in a slim package. Sadly, there’s no kickstand, but if you’re looking for a clean, stylishly designed case, this Samsung-branded leather case fits the bill.

For the Galaxy S23, UK-based Mous has done something a little different. It’s brought MagSafe compatibility to its line of Samsung cases with a few different eye-catching styles, all lined with AiroShock material that the company says provides excellent protection in a slim design (you can use MagSafe and other magnetic accessories with these cases).

Based on my previous experience with Mousse cases, they seem sturdy and they all include a lifetime warranty. Personally, I’m a fan of the Iridescent model pictured, but the Walnut, Bamboo, and Silver Pearl cases are also nice.

Incipio has the usual strong lineup of cases for the Galaxy S23, including old favorites like the Tough Duo (pictured in red; 12-foot drop protection), Grip (14-foot drop protection) and Organicore (14-foot drop protection). ft.), a 100% compostable eco-friendly can and now available with a clear back. It also has licensing deals with Kate Spade and Coach, and some of these cases offer eye-catching designs.

At $35, the Duo is the most affordable of the bunch, but look for prices to drop once the phones have been out for a while.

Rokform has been making tough smartphone cases for years, and aside from their durability, their main advantage is the ability to use them with various mounts — including bike, car, and motorcycle mounts — that are sold separately.

Rokform cases have a removable magnet and are compatible with wireless charging if you remove the attached center magnet. “With the bottom magnet still intact, you can still wirelessly charge while using the magnetic mount and all of our mounts,” says Rokform.

When you have a large screen phone, it might be a good idea to get extra screen protection with a folio case that also has slots for a few credit cards. This Otterbox Strada folio case is well designed with a magnetic clasp. Its only drawback is that it does not turn into a kickstand for watching videos.

Note that the image pictured is the Galaxy S22 Ultra case, but the S23 Ultra case looks very similar.
