This pickup truck uses EV technology to thwart old-school pickups

Besides its impressive cargo-carrying capabilities, the Telo is surprisingly fast. With a twin-engine all-wheel-drive architecture that produces 500 horsepower, the minivan is estimated to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just a few 4.0 seconds. Electric vehicles are known for their instant torque delivery and the Telos is no different, resulting in an impressive 1,600 lb. payload capacity and 6,600 lb. towing.

According to the company, the EPA-estimated range is about 350 miles and the truck’s battery is intended to be able to charge from 20% to 80% capacity in about 20 minutes. The Tello is also a capable off-roader, with a full 10-inch ground clearance and 27-inch-tall all-terrain tires.

Conspicuously absent from the Telo – and to account for its short length – is any kind of hood or trunk at all. The company’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Forrest North, thought that when electric cars took off in popularity, “there’s going to be an explosion of different vehicles” and was surprised when that didn’t happen, with the space that was officially occupied by the internal combustion engine unnecessarily reserved.

Telo has targeted a retail price of $49,999 for its pickup truck, not including Qualified tax incentives. If interested, deposits of $152 will be accepted which corresponds to the Telo’s length in inches. Future plans include an optional coach body and a bolt-on third row of seats, which would increase seating capacity to eight passengers.
