According to IIHS data, the Chevy Camaro, Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Ford Mustang are some of the deadliest cars on the road. At first glance, this may seem like fear mongering for fun-hating people, but it makes sense when you look at the data and the vehicles themselves. For example, cars like 700 horsepower more than the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat It is undoubtedly a lot of fun on the track, and the whine of the supercharger coupled with the roar of the massive V8 engine will bring a smile to most people’s faces. However, high horsepower and inexperienced or aggressive drivers don’t mix well.
IIHS posits that advertising doesn’t help much with ethics, either. Just a cursory look at advertisements for a Charger, Challenger, Camaro or Mustang can inspire drivers to drive their cars in a dangerous way. Additionally, the data shows that Dodge vehicles specifically are more likely to kill both the driver and the driver of the other vehicle in the event of a vehicle-to-vehicle collision.
In fairness, the most dangerous driver’s car isn’t a muscle car but the compact Mitsubishi Mirage G4, whose biggest selling point is that it’s the cheapest new car you can buy today. Small cars, such as the aforementioned Mitsubishi Mirage, Chevy Spark, and Hyundai Accent, top the list of cars with the highest driver fatalities.
