2025 Ram 1500 REV’s Big Ol’ Battery Runs 500 Miles

After dazzling us with CES debut of Ram revolution concept In January, the Stellantis truck brand followed up this week with the debut of the traditional-looking 2025 Ram 1500 REV at the 2023 New York Auto Show. It was missing out on some of its most impressive features—including the full-length cargo pass of the concept I’d been eyeing. Really — and toned down the styling a bit, but the production pickup still comes with a bold truckload, class-leading claims for its range and towing capacity.

Ram’s first electric truck is, of course, battery powered and will be offered in two available capacities at launch. The standard 168-kWh package is estimated to provide up to 350 miles of cruising range, while the optional big bump of the 229-kWh battery is estimated at up to 500 miles. Doing the simplest math (not counting potential power reserve), which works out to about 2.2 miles per kilowatt-hour.

Based on my loose handkerchief calculations, the Ram REV’s efficiency should fall in the ballpark of 74-mpge.

That’s not particularly efficient when compared to the currently popular range of smaller electric SUVs, but it’s on par with competing electric trucks this size. For comparison, the 131-kWh package in the Ford Lightning Extended Range is good for about 320 miles (2.1 mpg, according to the EPA), while the 303-mile Rivian R1T is currently offered in a 135-kWh configuration. (EPA) 2.1 miles/kWh). Of course, with about 100 more kWh on board, the Ram aims to take the longest-distance crown by a mile—or more accurately, 150 miles.

It takes a powerful charging system to fill up these massive reserves without taking a full day. The 1500 REV is compatible with 800V DC fast charging up to 350kW. (Of course, true 800V/350kW chargers are still relatively rare in the US, but the RAM is at least a little future proof.) Optimally, that lets the truck pick up up to 110 miles of juice in just a 10-minute share. On the other hand, home charging is still likely to be at least an overnight thing On the strength of the slowest level 2.

At the reveal, Ram also teased the longer-range Ram 1500 REV XR to follow, though it didn’t share how it hopes to achieve that “class-breaking range.” I suspect there’s a much larger mass budget in a car this size for a bigger battery, so I’m guessing the XR will be a two-wheel-drive spec that improves consumption rather than capacity.

As it is, the 1500 REV will be offered with up to 654 horsepower and 654 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Ram compliments the STLA’s large chassis capabilities with impressive tow numbers—up to 14,000 pounds of towing capacity and a payload of 2,700 pounds. RAM doesn’t say if that will require specific towing equipment or package

Even more features are added thanks to 15 cubic feet of underbelly storage—under the powered hood, where the engine would normally go in a subcompact—and bedside Ram Box storage bins. Users can take advantage of a 3.6kW AC inverter plug in the box to power their gadgets and toys on the go as well as a 7.2kW power point in bed. In addition, the 1500 REV will be car-to-home, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-network compatible via the J1772 CCS bi-directional charging port.

Front seat passengers are treated to up to three large screens and 23 speakers.

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will be offered in five trim levels during its launch year, starting with the top-of-the-line segment with the new Tungsten trim. Loaded with all the bells and whistles, the 1500 REV Tungsten’s premium interior rocks a 23-speaker Klipsch audio system with rear-seat center channel drivers integrated into the front seatbacks. Front row passengers will enjoy Ram’s Uconnect 5 system with a 14.5-inch vertical center screen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the world’s first 10.25-inch passenger screen. (We saw a similar display of aviators at a cousin Stellantis’ home in 1500, which is Jeep Grand Wagoneer.) Other available trims include the Limited, Laramie, Big Horn/Lone Star, and Tradesman; It will be offered lower specs with a smaller 12-inch touchscreen.

We expect the 2025 Ram 1500 REV to begin ramping up production early next year with deliveries reaching maximum capacity hopefully in early 2025.
