This story is part of Tech for a Better World, stories about diverse teams creating products, apps, and services to improve our lives and our society.

Over the past few years, many companies have begun to make great strides in producing more sustainable and environmentally friendly products. Although the tech industry still has a lot to catch up with, eco-friendly iPhone cases are on the rise. These iPhone cases, which are made from recycled and/or biodegradable materials, are more than capable of protecting your phone while helping the environment.

Also, the biodegradable cases will not harm the environment for years and years after you have finished using them. Some of the cases listed below are made from both recycled plastic and biodegradable plant materials.

Eco cases can look a little different than standard thermoplastic polyurethane, or TPU, particularly wooden cases—but most people won’t even realize you’re using an eco case unless you tell them. Many offer good drop protection, and all of the cases on this list are compatible with wireless chargers.

It should also be noted that many of these cases are available earlier iPhone models, incl iPhone 11 And iPhone XSand many of those cases are discounted.

It’s a little pricey at $50, but some of us like the idea of protecting the cutting edge with recycled technology and don’t mind paying extra for it. They have antimicrobial protection, are scratch resistant, and aren’t supposed to yellow over time. While the disc case is slim, it’s rated for 6-foot drop protection.

Lifeproof’s Wake case is made from recycled ocean plastic (85% of it anyway). It’s attractively designed but I wouldn’t call it super sturdy – it’s unlocked on the bottom and has 6-foot drop protection. It comes in four colors, including this one in teal, which I like best. KerfCase has been making handcrafted wooden cases for a while, and their new plywood case is not only more durable but less expensive than some, starting at $50, with 6-foot drop protection and a limited lifetime repair warranty.
