Microsoft announced Tuesday that OpenAI uses data from the Bing search engine to help improve Chatbot ChatGPT. Bing data integration allows the chatbot to provide real-time information to users, but initially, you will have to pay a monthly premium to use ChatGPT Plus.
The deal allows ChatGPT to pin its responses to Bing search data from modern websites, Yusef Mahdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer product marketing, said in an interview.
“They are grounding the answers. This will improve relevance. It will also make the answers more timely,” Mehdi said. “The second thing is that they can now use quotes, so when they have answers, they can point to links where people want to know more.”
The company offered the marriage of Bing and ChatGPT in the company Microsoft Build Developer Conferencewhich was held on Tuesday in Seattle.
It’s not entirely new. In March, ChatGPT Plus subscription members were able to use a “beta model” that used Bing to browse the Internet for more up-to-date information than was previously available, although this change was not disclosed at the time. ChatGPT Plus It premiered earlier this year and costs subscribers $20 per month.
Only ChatGPT Plus members will get access to the new Bing-infused version of the chatbot – at first. But Microsoft said it will eventually reach users of the free version of the chatbot. Currently, this version only pulls data from before September 2021. Users of the free product will need to enable a plugin to bring Bing into ChatGPT.
Microsoft has already included AI in its Bing search engine and Edge web browser.
Microsoft Also announced that it began building an AI chat interface directly into Windows, its most important software product. The company will begin testing the tool, called Windows Copilot, in June. It will perform tasks such as summarizing documents, suggesting music, providing technical support for your computer and answering questions you might ask an AI search engine or chatbot.
