Munchkin has been around for a long time now, but it’s still a mainstay on our game nights. My daughter and I love Star Realms and play it a lot; Even more, it is now available not only in physical form but on your phone as well.
Dragonwood can almost be played with a standard deck if it weren’t for the addition of monster cards and a few dice. On the surface, it’s a simple matching game where you collect groups of numbers or groups of colors or numbers. When you collect a group you can use those groups to roll the dice to help you defeat the monsters. Collect monster cards and you win the game.
My family and I enjoy Dragonwood because it allows our young players a sense of accomplishment. It uses color and number sequences, which is great for younger players, and the artwork and rolling mechanics make it more enjoyable for adults than most traditional, slow-paced card games.

Wild thing! is a surprisingly complex game disguised as a simple game. The premise is very old: like rummy, you have to collect runs or combinations of three cards. Wild thing! It adds a nice layer of complexity by introducing power cards that you can play once you win them, and if you have the statuette in your possession. Power cards help you change the rules so you can make more combos or runs.
Since Funko has licenses with hundreds of companies, there are tons of Something Wild! Packs, they are all cheap and they can all be combined to make the game bigger. It’s tons of fun and fast enough to make it the perfect first game on game night.

When my family and I want to play together but don’t want the hassle of getting a giant board to play with, we usually settle for one of the eight Fluxx packs we own. Fluxx is a fast-paced, ever-changing card game that starts with a basic set of rules: Draw one, Play one. Deck building is a relatively recent development in card games. Essentially, players craft or “buy” cards in a deck-building game to combine into their draw decks. Timeline stories aren’t perfect: You can find plenty of chat boards online with fans debating which stories are best, and which could have been better balanced. But even small misfires ultimately stem from the game’s ambition, and it’s hard not to get annoyed by that every time you sit down to play this fun card game.

Both players attempt to build civilizations across three eras, craft different cards that help you pursue military or scientific dominance, grow your resources and build different wonders.
The competitive game moves more quickly than larger strategy games like Everdell, and the card crafting mechanism provides surprising opportunities to block or trap your opponent. If you are looking for a fun and well-balanced game for many gaming sessions, then this is one of the best games out there.
