If you are anything like me, you can’t wait to get the best racing games for PS4 and PS5. I’ve been a fan of this genre for over two decades. Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 was the first racing game that caught my eye. This game, along with a huge collection of compact sports car racing magazines, paved the way for my all-out obsession. It changed the way I looked at motorsports and cars. For its time, the GT4 was the most modern of its kind, with accurate reproductions of real-world tracks and over 700 cars. I remember attending Laguna Seca in GT4 memorizing every turn the night before my first real track day.
PlayStation racing has come a long way over the past 19 years. Whether you are a serious racing enthusiast looking for a powerful and accurate racing sports simulator, a casual robot lover looking for a fast and fun arcade racer, or you are just beginning to explore your love for cars and car culture, the perfect racing game is right there waiting for you. To help you in your search, I’ve rounded up the best racing and driving games for Sony’s PS4 and PS5 consoles.

It is a collection of some of the best driving and racing games for PlayStation consoles that I have personally played and enjoyed. I’ve played all of these games on PS4 Probut they can all also run on PS5, and some even take full advantage of the extra horsepower of the new generation and DualSense tactile controls.
Sony and Polyphony Digital’s flagship Gran Turismo 7 racing series is coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022. In addition to the graphical and technical leaps made possible by the latest PS5 hardware, GT7 features a more extensive single-player campaign that keeps the competition in check. From humble compact cars to wild Vision GT concept cars, there are 424 cars to unlock and race on 24 real and fictional tracks – each with multiple configurations. Fortunately, the racing is satisfyingly fast-paced and GT7 is the most realistic PlayStation racing simulator you’ll find.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is a hardcore racing simulator that laser-focuses on the world of the Blancpain GT World Challenge. This means that the title lacks a lot of breadth and variety of, say, the Gran Turismo series or Xbox’s Forza, but it could also be a huge plus for fans of this specific style of racing looking for a more serious segment with more offline flesh that Currently offered by GT Sport.
The game features real racing cars from the 2018 and 2019 series, complete with authentic liveries. Jump straight into the Championship, fight your way through the ranks in Career Mode or head online to run wheel-by-wheel against players from around the world. The steering model and racing physics are so realistic and so challenging – that it can be frustrating to play with the joysticks. You’ll definitely want a good racing wheel with solid feedback (and maybe even a racing sim cockpit) for maximum fun.

Codemasters’ F1 2021 builds on its predecessor with new tracks, updated cars and a new My Team mode that lets you build and grow your own F1 franchise, rather than playing one of the existing teams. Do you have a friend who is a fan of Formula One? Play together in the new career mode for two players as teammates or fierce rivals.
The most interesting addition to F1 2021 is the new Braking Point mode. A much-loved Evolution of Rivals feature in the 2019 title, Braking Point is a narrative story mode that follows your player as you navigate victories, defeats and on-track rivalries – as well as off-track and in-the-pit drama – over the course of several years of your Formula 1/Formula 2 career. If you’re a fan of the Drive to Survive documentary series or movies like Rush, Braking Point in F1 2021 is definitely worth a try.

The third entry in the Project Cars series from Slightly Mad Studios takes a sharp left turn from the realistic simulation path of its predecessors and into a world that is easier for gamers and more fun for many. Controls have become more forgiving, graphics are brighter and shinier, and the entire game has been restructured to be more accessible to both casual players and franchise newcomers. That means shorter races and more Need For Speed style focus on upgrading your favorite car to supercar levels. Is it unrealistic to see a Toyota GT-86 suspended with actual GT3 race cars? Yes. Is it cool? No doubt.
Fans of earlier, more serious Project Cars games may be a little frustrated by the changes – which remove stalwart features like endurance racing, tire wear, and running out of fuel (which also means no pit stops) – but casual newcomers to the franchise can still find plenty to love and hours of fun. Dirt 5 is another racing title that delves into the arcade racing end of the driving game spectrum. Dirt 5 focuses almost exclusively on off-road and rally racing with a roster of 65 legendary rally and dirt racing vehicles ready to steer over 75 courses in 10 locations featuring sand, mud, ice, snow and dynamic weather that changes from lap to stone.
Most of these titles’ races are short-circuit races or point-to-point races, but Dirt 5 mixes it up with Gymkhana-style stunt displays, rocky Pathfinder hill climbs, and The Playground – a repository of user-created stunt tracks and the requisite track builder tools that let players create their own custom courses and share them with the community.

The Crew 2 features a roster of over 270 licensed cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and planes that players can switch between as they explore the US mini-release. The open world map is absolutely huge and full of other players who are also seeking adventure.
There are also a variety of arcade racing event types for you to engage with as you make your way from coast to coast, including drift challenges, street racing racing events, stunts, and much more.
With the Dirt series pushing deeper into the arcade end of the racing sim spectrum, I was thrilled when WRC 10 debuted to scratch an itch in the realism crowd.
WRC 10 improves on its predecessor with more cars, locations and ways to play, including a new 50th Anniversary mode that celebrates and recreates great moments from the history of the World Rally Championship dating back to its inception in 1973. – Dive into over 120 rally stages to master – and 22 legendary and historical cars from Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Subaru, Toyota and more.
The physics engine has also been updated, with improvements to aerodynamics and suspension simulation, making vehicles feel more accurate to their real-life counterparts. Newcomers to the digital rally can activate a revised set of assistance features to help make franchising easier. Audio and graphics quality have also been improved to take advantage of the processing horsepower and haptic controller feedback provided by the PlayStation 5 console.

Normally, opponents bumping into me during a race is the bane of my existence. In Wreckfest, putting your opponent into a wall or spinning them out of a corner is par for the course. even encouraged.
