Android can automatically track your daily screen time stats through the Digital Wellbeing app. Before you worry about privacy, this feature isn’t turned on by default — you need to activate it in your Android phone’s settings, then set up a profile before it starts keeping tabs on your phone usage.
Here’s how to activate the Digital Wellbeing app and track screen time. Note that this feature only works on devices running Android 10 and above.
Daniel Truck/Slash Gear
Open the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls.
If this is your first time opening this menu, you will need to set up a profile.
In the Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls menu, tap the three dots at the top right, then Manage your data.
Activate the daily use of the phone option.
Refer to the Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls menu.
Scroll down and activate Show icon in apps menu option.
With everything set up, you’ll be able to check your phone’s recent use from the dedicated Digital Wellbeing app. The app displays Screen Time, or how long you’ve opened recent apps, how many times you’ve unlocked your phone and opened apps, and how many notifications you’ve received from apps.
You can also add the Digital Wellbeing widget to your phone’s home screen for a quick look. Simply hold the app in your apps list for a moment, select Widgets, and tap the Digital Wellbeing widget to place it.
