Paramount is seeing its ad-supported tier skyrocket today

Paramount+ originally launched as CBS All Access in 2014. Since then, the number of subscribers has mushroomed, growing from more than 2 million subscribers in 2018 to 60 million as of April 2023. But as the streaming market has become overexcited, As saturation continues and the economy continues to suffer, the board of directors are tightening their belts and limiting the number of subscriptions they are willing to pay. Viewers aren’t trying to keep those customers with lower prices, instead they’re trying to retain them – and attract new customers – with alternative strategies such as cheaper Supported ad levels and restrict password sharing.

Overall, Paramount+ follows the same trend as many of its competitors. Netflix raised their cost levels last year. Its basic plan has increased from $8.99 to $9.99 per month, its standard tier from $13.99 to $15.49, and the premium 4K tier from $17.99 to $19.99. Similarly, HBO Max, Hulu, and Disney+ have also raised prices recently. The trend in higher prices isn’t limited to video players either. Music services including Spotify and Apple Music have raised the cost of their tiers, as has its game subscription service Xbox Game Passwhose Basic plan recently increased to $10.99 per month and the Ultimate plan increased by $2 to $16.99 per month.

If you want to save some money and aren’t yet subscribed to Paramount+, you can get a free one-month trial of Paramount+ with the Showtime plan, which is available to new customers through July 12th. Existing subscribers to the previous announcement—the free plan that doesn’t include Showtime—will have access to premium content starting today, but will also be charged an extra $2 per month like never before.
