Boeing 737 is a narrow-body aircraft that is popular in use all over the world and has been in production since 1967. The latest version of this model is 737 max, the latest in a long line of 737s. Although all-new aircraft are available with the latest avionics and engine technologies, not all airlines have upgraded yet. Airplanes are very expensive, and sometimes it makes sense to keep old airframes flying. This is true of at least one airline in Canada – Nolinor Aviation.
Most people, even in Canada, are probably not aware of this carrier. This is because it specializes in charter flights and is capable of carrying passengers or cargo, including petroleum, to many destinations in North America and Europe. A large part of the business advertised by Nolinor Aviation is remote destinations, particularly in northern Canada where environmental conditions tend to be challenging and extreme. Having the ability to quickly change payload type and transport it to cold and icy regions is the main reason Nolinor still flies its aging Boeing 737-200 aircraft.
Nolinor Aviation currently operates the two oldest 737-200 airframes, one produced in 1974 and the other in 1975. Until an aircraft better suited comes along and makes commercial sense for the carrier, these aircraft will likely continue to operate. fly in the foreseeable future.
