Synopsis for The Last of Us Episode 7: The Ultimate Heartbreaking Neon Adventure

The last of us Episode 7 has landed on HBO and HBO Max SundayFollowers of Ellie and Joel (Bella Ramsey and Pedro PascalAfter a harrowing encounter with a thief, Joel leaves They are stabbed and about to die. She interrupts their quest to bring Ellie to the rebel group known as the Fireflies.

They hope to restore society by replicating her immunity fungal infection This turned the world into deadly monsters. Before that, you must stop Ellie’s Joel from bleeding to death.

The situation reminds her of a dark moment from her past that sticks closely to a memorable part of the game. Let’s jump into SPOILERS for the HBO adaptation Sony PlayStation game.

a strained friendship

Most of the episode takes place in the time before Ellie and Joel meet, when she is living (and not getting along) with other children in the custody of FEDRA, the federal disaster response agency, which runs quarantine areas with the remnants of the United States. army.

The song Ellie is listening to while managing is “Pearl Jam” 2002 all or nothingwhich alludes to a repeat of the same cycle and ends up in conflict. This is basically what you do at this point.

After she gets into a conflict with a peer, a FEDRA officer presents her with alternate visions of her future in the district: keep messing around, end up munching on bad duties, and possibly die in a random accident. Or… show a little discipline, be an officer, and live a fairly comfortable life. She chooses the latter, but she doesn’t seem wild about it.

After staying up late reading an issue of Savage Starlight (a fictional comic book series for you can be collected in the game), her sleep is interrupted by runaway best friend Riley (Storm Reed). It is revealed that Riley has given up FEDRA sponsorship to the dissident Fireflies, but is still visiting to recruit Ellie.

Ellie posters include one for the 2000 box office disaster Red Planet (not to be confused with a very similar mission to Mars from the same year) and the 1987 sci-fi comedy Innerspace.

HBO

“Come with me for a few hours and have the best night of your life,” commands her boyfriend.

Hell yeah.

Eighties style fun

After a brief stop to check on a dead man, down a bit of pre-apocalyptic alcohol left behind, and enjoy Riley’s sidearm (which highlights Ellie’s fascination with adventure and death), the pair head to — where else? – The mall.

It turns out that FEDRA inadvertently restored power to the mall, giving Ellie a chance to get a taste of old-school consumerism. and run down an escalator to the tune of a Norwegian pop band The classic ’80s Take On Me song. (Elle has a version of the group’s greatest hits in her midst.) This tune Makes an unforgettable appearance In the The second match. The popular music video also shows a woman holding a comic book character’s hand and being drawn into an adventure – Ellie has a similarly over-the-top experience after she metaphorically takes Riley’s hand in this episode.

Bella Ramsey is very good here, with Ellie’s awkwardness about her Victoria’s Secret lingerie and stolen glances at Riley hinting at her feelings. These looks get longer as the alcohol takes effect.

Mall wonders

Turns out the escalator was just a prelude to the real fun. The pair hop on a carousel playing a version of The Cure’s Just like heaven (Specifically, the sound that sounds a lot like Rockabye Baby’s Lullaby (song). Songwriter Robert Smith said this tune was inspired by romantic trip He took with him his girlfriend Marie-Paule, who later became his wife.

“The idea is that one night like this is worth a thousand hours of hard work,” he told Blender magazine in 2003, which is probably how the show’s characters will experience this adventure.

Ellie and Riley’s evening continues with a trip to the photo booth, where they hit some poses and get real cozy in close quarters.

Flawless victory

Their next destination turns out to be “the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen” – a neon-drenched arcade. By some miracle, many of the kiosks are still working and they’ve hopped on the iconic 1993 fighter Mortal Kombat 2 (a poster for that game also appears above Ellie’s bed, hinting at her magic). HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery is also the Mortal Kombat franchise, Synergy FTW.

In their first battle, the more experienced, purple-clad cannibal Riley chooses Melina and Ellie for the thunder god Raiden – and ends up Excellent Milena dies from spitting out the bones.

Ellie’s revenge comes in a later round, when she runs Poorly finished stake pool. They experience the classic Mortal Kombat high of hyper-violence afterward and the sparks of romance get a little stronger. (Be warned though: Too many cartoon dead to watch It can have a strange effect on your mind.)

More classic puns

We remembered the next surprise for Riley Ellie’s penchant for bad jokeswhere she presents her boyfriend with a copy of No Pun Intended: Volume Too.

More fun puns await.

HBO What Did the Frustrated Cannibal Do? He raised his hands. What did the triangle say to the circle? You are so vain how drunk the computer? takes screenshots. What do you call an alligator in a sweater? They are interrupted before Riley can read the answer, but he is a “detective”.

Ellie is briefly reminded of the reality of their condition when she discovers the explosives that Riley prepared. Riley admits that the Fireflies are sending her away to the quarantine zone in Atlanta, and she wanted to spend this last night hanging out with Ellie before leaving. Ellie is not at all happy about this but eventually decides to go on with the last wonder.

Halloween time

After sharing their feelings in a super-chilled fashion store—since the outbreak in late September 2003 still sets up for a spooky season—the couple don masks and dance to an Etta James song to a ’60s tune. I got You Babe (You may know the original Sonny and Cher from the 1993 movie Groundhog Day.) The lyrics imply that young adults are defying their elders in the pursuit of love — just like these teens.

This is when the romantic tension comes to a head and Ellie decides to make a move, giving Riley a brief but passionate kiss. With their emotional and sexual cards finally on the table, Riley agrees to stay and it looks like things are going to be fine.

Until you get horrific attacks. Ellie manages to cut it open, but they both discover that they have been bitten. This will eventually lead to Ellie discovering her mysterious immunity, but Riley isn’t so lucky. They both think it’s a death sentence, but Riley wants to live as long as possible.

“We can just be poetic and dirty, and lose our minds together,” she tearfully says before they embrace.

We don’t see what happens next, but it’s possible that Ellie was forced to kill Riley once the infection took hold. It is likely that Marilyn found her then.

Back in 2023, Ellie maintains a spirit of refusing to give up hope – she is determined to heal Joel’s wounds rather than abandon him. She finds a needle and thread, and gets to work stitching up the wounds.

left behind

The section covered in this episode was not in the 2013 game at launch, it was added the following year in the Left Behind DLC pack and included with Remaster on PS4 and PS5.

You can try out a range of poses in The Last of Us Part 1’s photo booth scene.

naughty dog Screenshot from CNET

The show sticks closely to the events of the game, but the current section is more packed – it sees Ellie searching for meds in a shopping mall while an injured Joel lies unconscious. Avoiding infected robbers and humans along the way, she discovers meds in an army helicopter crashed through the roof of the mall.

During the flashback scenes with Riley, you play Fantasy game The Turning (which is basically Mortal Kombat) in the arcade… thing. The locker doesn’t work, so Riley tells Ellie to close her eyes and put her hands on the controls, then Riley describes the procedure. Mind theater indeed.

They also fight with water guns (a line in the show refers to this) and share a brief kiss in the game. A flashback ends with Ellie and Riley fleeing the mall while being chased by hordes of infected people. They both end up bitten and decide to wait out their deaths together. Riley succumbs to the fungus, but Ellie’s survival reveals her immunity.

Spin-off sitcom The Last of Us: American Dreams He also dives into Ellie and Riley’s friendship prior to this incident.

mother’s love

You can also read a note from Ellie’s unseen mother in this chapter (one given to her by Firefly leader Marlene):

Ellie,

I’ll share a secret with you, I’m not a huge fan of kids and I hate kids. However… I stare at you dumbfounded.

You’re not a day old and holding you is the most incredible thing I’ve ever done – a life about to be cut short.

Marilyn will take care of you. There is no one in this world that I trust more than her. When the time comes she will tell you all about me. Don’t give it too much of a hard time. Try not to be stubborn like me.

I’m not going to lie, this is a very corrupt world. It won’t be easy. The thing you should always remember is that life is worth living! Find your goal and fight for it.

I see a lot of strength in you. I know you will become the woman you were meant to be.

Forever…your loving mother

I

Make me proud, Ellie!

AEW Revolution 2023: How to watch, start times, full card and B/R Live

The first major test of Running for the MJF World Title Comes Sunday at AEW Revolution, he puts the AEW Championship on the line in an Iron Man match against Bryan Danielson. The pair would wrestle for the full 60 minutes, which was a tough format. How do you entertain the fans in a match of a predetermined length? I suspect Danielson and MJF will find a way, even if their storyline leading up to the main event doesn’t click.

Revolution has fewer matches than a typical AEW pay-per-view due to MJF-Danielson taking a lot of time. Little could be more, and Revolution features several matches that are sure to be worth watching. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks defended their AEW Trios Championships against Malakai Black, Buddy Murphy, and Brody King, and a Texas Deathmatch between Hangman Page and Jon Moxley is sure to be amazing (if you can handle the inevitable violence).

How ‘The Mandalorian’ addresses Cara Dune’s passing

There are many questions in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Will we see more of Luke Skywalker next Grogu left him in the Boba Fett book? Din Djarin could find his way back into the Mandalorian community then He takes off his helmet in the second season finale? And of course, what would Disney and creator Jon Favreau do about Cara Dune?

We found out the answer to this last question In the first episode of The Mandalorian Season 3that hit Disney Plus on Wednesday. Cara Dune, the renegade mercenary played by Gina Carano in the first two seasons of the show, is still alive, but she won’t be an active participant in Mando’s story.

When Din Djarin arrives in Navarro in the season premiere, he is met by High Magistrate Greef Karga, aka Carl Weathers. Carga quickly makes clear that Navarro needs a new marshal. Confused, Mando asks what happened to Marshall Dion. “After they brought Moff Gideon in, the Special Forces recruited her.”

The big bad guy in Season 2 was Gideon, who was defeated by Mando with Dion’s help in that season’s finale. In other words, Cara Dune is still a badass in the Star Wars universe, but we won’t get to see any of her exploits.

Dune was dropped by Lucasfilm this past February after she performed in a Quickly delete Instagram StoryBeing a Republican is like being a Jew in the years leading up to the Holocaust. Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. a Lucasfilm spokesperson said at the time. “Her social media posts that offend people on the basis of their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” she added.

Since then, Carano has signed on to Daily Wire, a conservative media company co-created by political expert Ben Shapiro. In 2022, she starred in the Western flick Terror on the Prairie, which was only released to Daily Wire subscribers. Speaking to Shapiro in an interview last year, she said she was bullied by Disney and Lucasfilm.

“I’ve been through a lot, I’ve seen a lot now, and obviously, about the bullying that was going on, I’ve seen it before,” Carano said. Ben Shapiro Show last february. “I am not the only one who has been bullied by this company, I know it deeply.”

Regarding the Instragram post that led to her quitting, Carano said she was “inspired by the gentle spirit of the Jewish people going through at the time,” adding, “When I posted it wasn’t something I felt was controversial. It was something I thought, well, maybe We all need to ask ourselves how this happened.”

Best iPad for 2023: Navigating Apple’s Tablets

iPad shoppers, I have frustrating news for you. There’s no perfect iPad anymore. This is the state of iPads in early 2023: Lots of choices but no clear-cut, absolute winner. There are, however, some specific shopping tips we can offer. And some good news.

The latest iPads have confused the landscape further. The 10th-gen iPad is more expensive than the ninth-gen iPad, which remains on sale. The 10th-gen model has a better-placed front-facing camera for video chats, a larger screen, a faster processor and USB-C charging, but needs its own cases and a weird dongle for charging the first-gen Pencil.

Meanwhile, the newest iPad Pros get better M2 processors, faster Wi-Fi 6E and 5G connectivity and a new “Pencil hover” tool for proximity-based previews of art tools, but the design remains the same and the front camera placement hasn’t been fixed, which remains frustrating for anyone who was hoping to use the iPad Pro for work-based video chats when in landscape mode. Also, iPadOS is no closer to replacing your Mac, except for Stage Manager’s external monitor support coming later this year.

The best iPads for now may arguably still be older models: The ninth-gen iPad is the best choice for kids and budget shoppers a year after its debut.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air, released earlier this year, remains the best “Pro on a budget” iPad with its fast M1 chip and Pencil 2 support. It doesn’t fix that front camera either, though, so if looking good on Zoom and FaceTime matters the most, consider that 10th-gen iPad instead.

Our top choice: Again, no clear winner

There’s a $120 starting price gap between the $329 entry-model ninth-gen, which remains in the line, and the new $449 10th-gen version. That gives the older model a bit of an edge over the new one, despite the latter’s slightly larger display, side camera, better processor and USB-C connection — especially if you only really need one of those upgrades, like the camera relocation. If you need all those upgrades and can afford it but don’t need an M1 CPU, the step-up model makes sense.

Whichever model or screen size you go with, all the current iPads support the latest version of iPadOS (a version of iOS specifically for iPads) and either the first- or second-gen Apple Pencil — though the most recently released 10th-gen model’s Pencil support is less than elegant. Let’s just say there’s a dongle involved, which is rarely a good thing. Apple is supporting external monitors as an extended desktop for iPads with an M1 chip or better via a software update to iPadOS 16 that’s coming later this year, but the feature, called Stage Manager, remains buggy and feels experimental.

No matter what iPad you buy, there are ways of connecting keyboard cases, Bluetooth and otherwise, although your options will vary. That’s good news for anyone who wants to do more than stream videos and music, browse websites and play Apple Arcade games. Plus, all the current iPad models support mouse and trackpad use, for a more MacBook-like experience. The Apple Magic Keyboard is compatible with the iPad Pro and iPad Air, but not the 10th-gen iPad (which has a new Magic Keyboard Folio case instead).

Check out the selections below to find the best iPad for your needs. And then read further for more advice.

We’ve always appreciated the entry-level iPad for its affordable price. Last year’s entry-level model is less expensive than the newer 10th-gen iPad, and is still very functional: Its older A13 chip and Lightning-charger-equipped, Touch ID home button design all feel somewhat out of date but work fine. This iPad’s screen size is perfect for everyday work and fun, there’s an auto-zooming front-facing Center Stage camera, and unlike the 10th-gen iPad, the first-gen Apple Pencil doesn’t need a dongle to work. It’s still compatible with a range of keyboard cases, too.

Scott Stein/CNET

The step-up new entry-level iPad has a whole new design and now has USB-C, a faster A14 chip and a larger display. Its best feature, though, is a repositioned front-facing camera that finally centers video chats properly in landscape mode, which is how most people use their iPads when they’re connected to keyboard cases. If you’re someone who needs to Zoom a lot on an iPad, this is worth the extra price over the ninth-gen model if you can afford it. The downside is the bizarre lack of support for the Pencil 2, requiring you to use a first-gen Pencil and a USB-C charge dongle (not included) for sketches and note-taking.

Sarah Tew/CNET

The iPad Air costs less ($599) than the iPad Pro, but has less starting storage (64GB). It adds an M1 processor similar to that of the iPad Pro from 2021, a 5G option, and a Center Stage front-facing camera. It doesn’t have the better-placed front camera of the 10th-gen iPad, but supports Pencil 2 and has a better processor and display. The only points where it lags compared to the 11-inch Pro are a slightly slower processor, that new Pencil 2 hover support, and faster connectivity. You still might consider the Pro worth it, depending. But keep in mind that the 2021 iPad Pro, if it’s on sale for less, is the better buy: It has a faster-refresh display, better rear cameras, Face ID/lidar and a faster Thunderbolt USB-C port.

Scott Stein/CNET

Apple’s 2022 iPad Pro refresh added a more powerful M2 chip, faster Wi-Fi 6E and optional 5G connectivity, and a new Pencil 2 “hover” feature that activates the display when the stylus is in close range. Not many apps take advantage of hover, though, and the rest of this iPad design’s the same as the previous model. The iPad Pro lineup are still the only models with faster 120Hz variable refresh rate displays, a step-up Mini LED HDR display on the 12.9-inch model, Face ID and depth-sensing lidar cameras and a faster Thunderbolt 4 port. If you don’t mind that the front-facing camera isn’t landscape-oriented yet like the 10th-gen iPad’s — and you have the money to burn — this is the most advanced model, but it doesn’t get you any closer to being a Mac.

Scott Stein/CNET

If you don’t care about a keyboard case (even though there are some small ones that will work with it), this tinier iPad mini, while expensive, is still a great portable pick. Its newer design supports the Pencil 2, it has USB-C, and its processor is plenty fast enough. For note-taking, reading, games and movies, this is an enticing choice.

What are the differences among the top iPad models?

The 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models now have M2 processors, while the 2022 Air is powered by the M1 processor, the chips found in Apple’s latest Macs. Along with the new processors, the iPad Pros have better Wi-Fi 6E and faster 5G mmWave connectivity, Face ID cameras on the front and dual cameras and lidar depth sensors on the back, 120Hz variable refresh rate displays, a Mini LED Liquid Retina XDR display on the 12.9-inch model, a higher-speed Thunderbolt USB-C port, and a new proximity-based Pencil hover feature that could be used to show previews of art tools on compatible apps.

Can I use an iPad instead of a MacBook?

Sort of. Its processor is as powerful as a MacBook Air’s, and it works with Bluetooth keyboards and Apple trackpads. But it’s held back from acting as a true replacement by iPadOS; that means, among other things, no useful dual-monitor support (it can only mirror, not extend, to a second display) and no support for full desktop applications. Though you might pooh-pooh the latter — after all, Apple says you can do it all with an iPad — for most school and work requirements, you’ll find at least one thing you need to do on a laptop. For instance, even if I could do my job on an iPad Pro (and it’s not even close), in order to access some corporate locations I have to run the VPN, which is only available on company-issued systems.

Many limitations of current mobile apps have carried through into iPadOS. In some cases it may just be because developers are still building out apps and haven’t yet gotten them to full feature-dom yet, though there’s no guarantee they ever will get there. Adobe Lightroom is a fine “light” Lightroom, but Adobe intended it from the start to be mobile-first, and thus lack some features important to professionals, including wired tethered shooting, optimization for local file storage (rather than cloud) and the ability to intelligently handle raw plus JPEG.

Rare Giant Jurassic Insect Discovered at Arkansas Walmart

In 2012, entomologist Michael Skvarla stopped at a Walmart in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to pick up some milk. On his way, he spots an unusually large bug on the side of a building. So he snagged them, took them shopping, brought them home and rode them, thinking they were ants, some kind of flying insects. Years later, he discovered it was something very rare: an insect with an ancient history.

Penn State shared the story of Skvarla’s discovery on Monday. Skvarla is director of the university’s Insect Identification Laboratory. “The polystoychotus puntata or giant lace is the first of its kind recorded in eastern North America in more than 50 years – and the first record of this species ever in the state,” Pennsylvania said in a statement.

Skvarla corrected the initial misidentification while teaching a Zoom class in 2020 as he shared his personal collection of insects with students. Together, they worked on the new identifier, which was later confirmed by DNA analysis. The results appear in a study published late last year In Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington.

The researchers found Giant lace fossils dating back to About 165 million years ago during the Jurassic period. The Arkansas has a wingspan of about 2 inches (50 mm).

Pig mold, hairy snails and other wonderful things are trapped in amber

Scientists aren’t sure why giant flankers disappeared from eastern North America. Predators, urbanization, or changes in insect forest ecology may have played a role. “This discovery indicates that there may be imagined populations of this large, charismatic insect that have yet to be discovered,” the study said. Basically, there could be hidden clusters of giant wings flying under the radar in Arkansas. The person on the side of the Walmart may have been drawn to the store’s lights at night.

This is a story of rediscovery, but it is also a story about the joys of science. Cody Mathis, an entomology doctoral student at Penn State, remembers the semester and the identification process, saying, “It was gratifying to know that the excitement hadn’t died down, and the wonder hadn’t been lost. Here we are making a real discovery in the middle of an online lab course.”

Scientists have created a device that sends Baby Shark birth announcements

Congratulations, it’s a group of baby shark babies! Shark science is taking a major step forward with an innovative device called the Birth Alert Tag, or BAT, that tracks where pregnant sharks give birth to their babies.

Knowing where and when sharks give birth can help with conservation and protection measures. “We’ve been trying to do this since we started studying sharks,” Arizona State University marine biologist James Sulikowski said in a statement Wednesday. “This is our holy grail. We’ve really advanced the science of sharks, 20, 30, 40 years.”

The birthing alert tag is a small device that goes along with the flight when a shark is giving birth.

James Solikowski

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature – Keeper of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species – A 2021 study found that approximately 36% of the 536 shark species assessed are threatened with extinction. Overfishing and the demands of the shark fin trade are adding to the pressure. Shark fins are used in medicinal preparations or as food.

a Paper published in Science Advances Wed details use BAT satellite device in pregnant sharks. The researchers capture a shark and then insert the BAT through the animal’s cloacal opening (where the babies come out). The small, egg-shaped device is suspended in the shark until it gives birth. It then pops up and transmits the birth announcement with the time and place.

The team successfully used the device on tiger sharks and hammerheads, two species of shark known to travel long distances.

Scientists also learned something new about sand sharks, discovering that they love giving birth in abandoned wrecks. “It was a complete surprise,” Solikowski said. “For most shark species, we have no idea where they are born or how far they must travel to the habitats that are essential for their survival.”

The research team believes that BAT plays a huge role in shark conservation. “Once habitats are discovered,” ASU said, efforts will be made to protect those areas, either by creating sanctuaries or expanding areas already designated for this purpose.

The auroral display is the result of Earth-directed coronal mass ejections from the sun over the weekend. This means that more opportunities are definitely waiting to see the high-flying lights, especially at higher latitudes.
