If you’ve never had a sunburn on your lips before, consider yourself lucky. I’m prone to horrible sunburns, so every time I go outside, I put sunscreen on. However, I never thought about putting it on my lips — well, that was before I got that nasty burn in there. For weeks afterward, my lips were chapped and peeled. Now I make sure I have Sun Bum Sunscreen Lip Balm handy. It’s SPF 30 not only helps moisturize your lips, but also protects them from the sun’s harmful rays.

After a long day in the sun, it’s important to moisturize your skin. That’s where ELF’s SuperHydrate Facial Moisturizer saves the day. One of my biggest gripes with some moisturizers is how greasy and heavy they feel on your skin, but ELF’s moisturizer leaves your face feeling refreshed, not greasy.

No packing list is complete without a powerful facial cleanser. While I wouldn’t recommend this one for those with acne who need a skin treatment, the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser works well for those looking to simply wash their face. I’ve always been a huge fan of Glossier products, and recently started using the Jelly Cleanser to wash my face every evening. The cleanser is more expensive than other facial cleansers, but a little goes a long way.

I forgo extra baggage fees on my next trip though with these products

Earlier this year, a friend and I took the opportunity to fly back and forth from JFK to London for only $300. This is half the cost of the usual $600 ticket. When we saw the $300 discounted price, we instinctively booked a week-long flight, then promptly bought a ticket on the $40 Ryanair flight to Portugal. But with every low-priced trip comes a ticket high in restrictions: It only had one “personal item” for me. Even hand baggage costs an additional $55 each way. Do you want to bring a travel bag? This will run you an additional $80 each way.

Here is my suitcase fully packed and ready to go on a week long trip abroad.

Charlotte Maracina/CNET

I realized that if I wanted to save myself an extra fee like that, I needed to put all my stuff in a personal item, bag that could fit under the seat in front of me and not exceed 18″ by 14″ by 8″. For reference, think of a school backpack or a tote bag.

Yep, that’s all I had to pack for a week-long trip.

While packing for the trip, I tried several types of backpacks that could all be considered a personal item. After several rounds of trial and error, I finally perfected the formula to fit all of my items for a weeklong trip into a personal item. Since embarking on my personal-only trip in February, I’ve used this backpack on several other trips on budget airlines, saving myself hundreds of dollars in baggage fees.

The only airline that had a hard time with this was Frontier. But every other airline, including Spirit and European discount airlines like RyanAir, has let my bag through for a personal item. My advice: buy this bag, don’t fly over the border.

Satchel

First, let’s start with the basics: the bag. There is a wide variety of bags for you to choose from – spinner bags, purses, backpacks or backpacks. I prefer using backpacks because they tend to be the easiest type of bag to carry around multiple cities and hostels. Here are the top two bags I would recommend for your next trip.

I should point out that the Lululemon bag is obviously quite expensive, but I’ve actually used the bag on six separate trips which makes it well worth the money. The idea that I would have to pay extra for a carry-on bag is outrageous, and I was willing to find long-term ways around all of this.

lululemon

This was the bag I was using. Inside the bag I managed to fit three packing cubes and a pair of heels. The bag has two exterior zip pockets that can serve as additional storage for small toiletries or toiletries you may need; I used it to hold my travel size shampoo and conditioner along with my makeup.

However, my favorite aspect of the bag is the padded exterior pocket, which can fit a 16-inch laptop. One of the biggest challenges I faced while finding the perfect bag was finding one that could fit not only my clothes but my laptop as well. Since I’ll be working remotely on my trip, bringing my own work laptop is kind of a non-negotiable. While this bag may not fit seamlessly under the seat in front of me (I’ll likely have to push it around a bit), it is large enough to fit all of my belongings and more while counting as a personal item!

Need more space? I also got Lululemon belt bag To hold my most important items like my passport, AirPods, ID and sunglasses. (Let’s be honest, it’s a fanny pack; calling it a belt bag is all marketing.) Since a belt bag is small enough to attach to my person, most airlines don’t usually give me an issue with it. If the airline strictly adhered to their “one personal item per person” policy, the bag could easily be shoved into my carry-on and taken out once on the plane.

Pace

Well, this bag was pretty close. If you don’t have any packing cubes but still need a way to organize your clothes, let me introduce you to the Beis Hanging Backpack. This, my friends, is no ordinary backpack; Open it up and you will find a compact shelving system. It also has four interior pockets, as well as an exterior laptop pocket and two zip pockets.

The Hanging Backpack is a one of a kind backpack and by far my favorite travel bag made by Beis. Ultimately, the deciding factor between this Lululemon bag and this one came down to the laptop pocket size. I will definitely be using this backpack for future weekend trips.

packing cubes

For the longest time I was against packing cubes. Why? I have no idea, especially out of laziness. The idea of having to reassemble everything into tiny little cubes seemed like a waste of time to me. After traveling more, I now see the error of my ways. Packing cubes make your life easier when you have limited space. Here are the packing cubes I have used to help me stay organized while packing for my trip.

Tobo

When I first got my Topo Pack bags, I thought, “There’s no way everything will fit.” Once again, I was proven wrong. In one of my 5 liter packing bags I put seven tops along with a long sleeve shirt. In the 10-liter packing bag, I managed to fit three pairs of jeans and one pair of leather pants. I used a second 5 liter bag to fit my relatives and smaller items of clothing.

Calback

Topo packing bags were useful for my clothes and larger items, but this zip-up bag from Compakt fits toiletries and smaller items with ease. If you have a bag that doesn’t have a lot of zipper pockets or extra storage space, this is where this bag set comes into play. The three-piece waterproof set will help keep you organized and eliminate any extra hassle of digging through your bag to find smaller items. (There’s nothing more annoying than having to get everything out of your bag to find a phone charger.)

Ready-made

The difficulty of packing really depends on where you’re going. Headed for a beach vacation? Packing personal items will be easy, all you really need are a bathing suit and a tank top. Are you preparing for a trip where you will be lucky if the weather goes beyond freezing? This is where the problem lies.

Strategic packing is the secret formula for making everything fit in a backpack. This means bringing clothes that can easily be layered and wearing four different layers of clothing on the plane. While packing, I always make sure to pack jackets that are designed to be packable so they don’t take up too much space in my suitcase. Here are just a few of the essentials I packed for my trip.

Tobo

They say the best things come in small packages and this hoodie proves it true. It keeps you warm while also keeping your luggage light. I love the simple design and how easy it is to pair with other outfits. If you’re traveling to a cooler destination and need a warm, lightweight jacket, you need the Global Puffer Hoodie.

garage

Over the past two years, my collection of these tank tops has grown rapidly. I now own about eight of them, all in different colors. Seamless tank tops can be dressed up or dressed down and layered with ease which is why they are a travel essential. Tank tops can be easily rolled up and packed into any size bag. Whether you’re planning to kick back or step out, these tank tops are great for every occasion.

Sony coincidentally reveals the main PlayStation game budgets

It may seem a little strange that Microsoft competition is the reason for such a huge delay and gear change. However, it was not introduced without reason. Sony filed the papers to prove to the Federal Trade Commission that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard would affect it financially. This is due specifically to the popularity of Activision’s “Call of Duty” franchise among PlayStation users. The argument was that Sony and PlayStation would be hit hard by the drop in revenue due to “Call of Duty” eventually becoming an Xbox exclusive.

According to hastily revised papers, as analyzed by the edgeCall of Duty games were worth nearly $800 million to PlayStation in the US in 2021. While the global figure can’t be fully verified, a closer look at the paperwork reveals that PlayStation could be worth more than $1.5 billion worldwide. around the world. To make things even more impressive, the document appears to reveal that the value of the franchise itself (to Sony) was $13.9 billion or more.

We know only one Call of Duty game is slated to release between PlayStation and Xbox, potentially adding to the million players Sony claims only play the franchise’s versions. It is not clear what will happen with the hearing going forward since the relevant papers and exhibits were removed upon discovery.

The Crab’s creators were troubled by alleged corporate influence, branding politics, and internal political decisions.

The creation of the board marks the end of Rost’s core team and interim leadership conversation. While hailing these two efforts as critical to Project Rust, the Leadership Council acknowledged shortcomings in the project’s governance. “We hope to build on the successes and improve on the failures to eventually lead to more transparency and accountability,” the council said.

Hulk said blog post. He described Rust as potentially having four years of “governance debt”. He added: “In the conversations I’ve already had with people about Rust’s management, one clear theme that has come up over and over again is that we need more transparency in Rust’s leadership. Fortunately, I think all of us on the Board agree with this and are committed to improving transparency.”

In the coming weeks, plans call for establishing the core infrastructure for the group, including a plan for meetings, a process for raising agenda items, a team repository, and completing the transition from Rust’s previous leadership structures. More will be posted once this boot process is complete.

Databricks Delta Lake 3.0 to counter Apache Iceberg tables

Databricks on Wednesday introduced a new version of data lake Advances, dubbed Delta Lake 3.0, in order to counter the growing popularity of apache iceberg Tables used by competitors snowflake.

As part of Delta Lake 3.0, the company introduced a new universal table format, dubbed UniForm, that will allow organizations to use Data Lake with other table formats such as Apache Iceberg and apache hoodyThe company said.

A data lake warehouse is a data architecture that provides storage and analysis capabilities, in contrast to the concepts of data lakes, which store data in a native format, and data warehouses, which store structured data (often in SQL appearance).

Databricks said UniForm eliminates the need to manually convert files from different data lakes and data warehouses while performing analytics or building AI models.

The new table format, according to the analysts, is Databricks’ strategy to connect its data lake with the rest of the world and take on competition Snowflake, especially on the back of Apache Iceberg garnering more multi-vendor support in the past few years.

“With UniForm, Databricks are basically saying, if you can’t beat them, join them,” said Tony Baer, principal analyst at dbInsight, likening the battle between table formats to the ones between Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

However, Baer believes that adoption of lakehouses will depend on the ecosystem they provide and not just stream formats.

“House-of-lake adoption is still very preliminary because ecosystems have only recently taken shape and most companies are still learning what Home-of-the-Lake is,” Baer said, adding that Houses-of-the-Lake may see meaningful adoption a year from now.

Unlike Baer, Databricks said Delta Lake saw nearly 1 billion downloads a year. Last year, the company Open source delta lick demo This according to the company has seen the lake get updates from contributing engineers from AWS, Adobe, Twilio, eBay and Uber.

Delta core and liquid assembly

As part of Delta Lake 3.0, the company also introduced two other features – Delta Kernel and Liquid Pooling.

According to Databricks, the Delta Kernel handles connector fragmentation by ensuring that all connectors are created using the Delta core library that implements the Delta specification.

The company said this alleviates the need for enterprise users to update Delta connectors with each new release or protocol change.

According to SanjMo Principal Analyst Sanjeev Mohan, the Delta Kernel is like a connector dev kit that strips out many of the essential details and instead provides a set of static elements. APIs.

“This reduces the complexity and time to build and deploy connectors. We expect system integrators will now be able to accelerate the development and deployment of connectors, thereby further expanding the Databricks partner ecosystem,” Mohan said.

liquid gathering It was introduced to address performance issues around data read and write operations, Databricks said.

In contrast to traditional methods such as cell-style partitioning which complicates data management due to its use of static data layout to improve read and write performance, liquid aggregation provides a flexible data layout format that Databricks claims will provide cost-effective aggregations as data volume increases.

TikTok may soon open an online store

Once the new TikTok store goes live in the US, users will have access to a dedicated e-commerce tab within the app. This tab will display a comprehensive selection of products from TikTok’s existing third-party store and its own. Moreover, users will be able to manage their purchases and track their orders directly from this tab.

While TikTok undoubtedly boasts massive success as a social media platform, venturing into e-commerce can present challenges. It seems that TikTok aims not only to regulate the inventory of the online store but also to create an independent distribution system and supply chain management to deliver goods to consumers. Competitors have already mastered these aspects of e-commerce, making it a daunting task for even well-resourced companies to achieve smooth operations from the start.

Considering the relatively modest performance of TikTok’s existing TikTok store, this new move could be a strategic shift to test the waters in the fiercely competitive e-commerce space. However, TikTok needs to address more than just consumer interest when launching its e-commerce platform. How does the US government monitor? Realize This would be an interesting move, especially since TikTok has indicated that many of the items it plans to sell on the platform are sourced from China.

Paramount+ originally launched as CBS All Access in 2014. Since then, the number of subscribers has mushroomed, growing from more than 2 million subscribers in 2018 to 60 million as of April 2023. Wyze’s home security system is pretty cheap—even after the price hikes many of its products saw in early 2021. The company’s home monitoring system costs about $100 and comes with two door/window sensors, a motion detector, keypad, and a base station with built-in siren—lots of it. appliances for the apartment.

In short, Wyze is a powerful system at a really attractive price—that’s both cheap and easily scalable for a variety of apartment or house sizes (adding a camera, for example, will set you back at least $30). The big drawback? It doesn’t have cellular backup, which means if the power or the Internet goes out, you’ll miss out on the professional monitoring and remote alerts. However, the system will continue to run locally, so if someone breaks in during a power outage, the siren will still go off.

It comes with a door/window sensor, motion sensor, keypad, range extender and base station. While it is not as good as Ring Alarm Pro Many renters don’t need a new router—let alone a mesh Wi-Fi system.

What I like most about Ring Alarm for renters is that it works with… Cam peephole ring, and it’s one of the only peephole video doorbells you’ll often find in apartment buildings. Like Wyze, Ring unfortunately doesn’t have cellular backup.

SimpliSafe is our favorite home security system for renters for several reasons: It’s reliable, it’s priced well, and it doesn’t have major vulnerabilities (that’s right, you have a cellular backup here, unlike the two systems above). However, SimpliSafe does have one drawback for renters in particular: its video doorbell is wire-only. For many renters without doorbell wires (or without permission to tinker with them), that takes the video doorbell off the table.

If you’re not worried about a video doorbell, SimpliSafe offers great packages at prices that, while slightly higher than the systems above, beat out direct competitors like Abode. Bundles start at $245, but you can regularly find them on sale on SimpliSafe’s website for much less—at the time of writing, for example, the basic bundle costs just $196.

How do we test home security systems

For each system we test, we install it ourselves just as you would at home, or we have an installer come to set it up in the case of professional systems like ADT and Comcast Xfinity. Once it is installed, we spend at least a week testing the system and all the features of each device individually. Our ranking prioritizes value, but also takes into account hardware quality, service, and general user experience — including how easy it is to set up and the frequency of false alarms. Frequently asked questions about home security for renters

Can you install a security system in the rental?

You can add a home security system to your apartment or rental home, but often a DIY non-invasive system (one that doesn’t require drilling into walls or doors, or rewiring a doorbell, for example) is your best bet. Furthermore, professionally installed security services may come with a contract that extends beyond the term of the lease, adding to the complexity of your next move.

Before purchasing a system or signing up for service, check your lease agreement to ensure that any major changes, such as installing a home security system, are permitted in your apartment or home.

Should I put a security camera in my apartment?

An outdoor camera is generally not recommended for apartments, unless it’s for private spaces like a backyard, because it will routinely take shots of people in public. In addition, many lease agreements do not allow the outside installation of equipment such as cameras or satellite dishes.

On the other hand, there are many reasons why you might want to add a security camera or two inside. Smart home cameras are great ways to keep an eye on kids from another room or pets when you’re out and about. For security, the camera may take photos or videos of intruders and send you an alert. Furthermore, the presence of a security camera is often enough to deter a potential thief, so consider placing a camera where others can easily see it.

How can I insure my apartment?

Installing a home security system that monitors the entrances and insides of your apartment is one of the best ways to secure your residence, but there are other measures you can take. It’s a good idea to keep valuables out of sight, especially from windows (where someone from outside might see them).

A buddy system can be a free but invaluable way to enhance your apartment security: make friends with your neighbors, report suspicious activity and have them monitor your property while you monitor theirs.

You may also want to consider renter’s insurance to reduce losses in the event of a burglary or other security breach. To learn more about home security for apartments, check out these Home security tips for apartments.
